Enzyme Peels

Enzymes are used to exfoliate or peel the skin's superficial, outermost layer. Papain (papaya) and bromelain (pineapple) are two enzymatic ingredients that are commonly used in retail products and professional peels. Enzymes work by digesting the keratinized epidermal cells (dead skin cells). During the enzymatic peeling process, the active ingredients dislodge or break up the intercellular glue and sebum that accumulates in the follicles. Enzymes are more gentle than many alpha hydroxy acids, and as a result enzymes do not cause peeling of the skin and downtime after being used. Enzymes help to even out skin tone and prepare the skin for extractions during a facial treatment.

Professional enzyme treatments are commonly used for more sensitive skin clients, or those who have not experienced peeling procedures before. Many times, those who are using retinol products will also have enzyme peels performed.

At home or retail products that contain enzymes are excellent to incorporate into ones skin care regimen. CosMedix Pure Enzymes contains such ingredients like l-lactic acid that purify and soften the skin to give it a healthy glow.

Jan Marini Clean Zyme Papaya Cleanser fights acneic issues, as well as resurfaces the skin. When combined with Jan Marini Skin Zyme Papaya Mask, it works even better for acne skin. Skin concerns such as melasma and sun damage are also addressed with these two products.
